Ball Python Guaranteed Feeding Method
I have been working with ball pythons for over 20 years and every once in awhile you get one of those
problem feeders. Most of my babies eat frozen thawed on their first try but there are others that can be
picky. Recently I have tried the heating method that seems to work but if you are not careful you can heat the
mouse up to high and POP you now have a messy cleanup not to mention the mouse is no longer any good.
One thing I did know was that I did not want to breed mice or rats and it is so much easier buying and keeping them in the freezer.
Well I was sitting here and pondering up other ways to feed these guys and came up with an idea.
I took a small clear plastic container with air holes punched in the side, put a live mouse in it and
put the lid back on it. I sat the container in the snakes enclosure, waited a few minutes and then
with tongs dangled a room temperature mouse in front of the baby ball and boom he ate it. I tried the same thing on another one and same results.
I guess it is kind of stressful for the mouse but I don't leave them in the container that long. I have not heard of this method
being used but if you are having trouble then try it. You will have to have a couple mice to use as bait but it sure is better then
raising a ton of mice to maintain your collection. Give it a shot and if you want to shoot us an email on your success we would love to
hear from you. Also if it works for you feel free to share with others this information.
On a side note, buy a little bag of mouse treats to give to your little helper. I am sure he or she would appreciate it and you may feel better also.
